Acidification in Naturopathy and Regulatory Therapy

Note on Terminology: "Acidosis" in Naturopathy

The term "acidosis" is used differently in naturopathy and complementary medicine practice than in clinical medicine. It is important to be aware of this distinction.

Conventional Medical Perspective

Conventional medicine uses the term acidosis to describe a measurable, clinically relevant disturbance of blood pH – a condition that requires intensive medical treatment and can be life-threatening. The body strictly regulates blood pH within a very narrow range (7.35–7.45). Therefore, "acidosis" in the conventional medical sense is not an everyday phenomenon, but a medical emergency.

Naturopathic Perspective

Naturopathy uses the term in a broader sense: it describes a latent, subclinical shift in the metabolic environment towards acidity – measurable, for example, in urine pH – which does not necessarily alter blood pH but can burden tissues, cells, and metabolism. The main causes are considered to be:

  • Acid-forming diet with a lot of meat, sugar, white flour, and alcohol
  • Lack of exercise, which slows down the removal of acidic metabolic products
  • Chronic stress and insufficient sleep

Conventional medicine does not recognize this concept as a distinct disease. However, in naturopathy and complementary medicine, it is a common explanatory model for diffuse complaints such as fatigue, muscle tension, or reduced regenerative capacity. Especially in the context of regulation therapy, it is important to eliminate tissue acidosis according to the naturopathic understanding.

Classification

Jorinde Acid-Base Balance is aimed at people who want to support their body with alkaline minerals in the naturopathic sense. The product does not replace a medical diagnosis or treatment. For persistent complaints, we recommend seeking medical advice.
